AUSIELLO SPOILERS

WOW, really good spoiler! I can´t wait for this hiatus to end! I want more Chuck!

Question: Please, give us some Chuck scoop! Man, I hate this hiatus. —Ceci

Ausiello: Yeah, well, you may hate this next scoop more: In this season’s penultimate episode on May 9, “Something terrible happens to someone we love,” reveals EP Chris Fedak. In potentially related news, the show is casting the role of Clyde Decker, a “determined and remorseless CIA agent who will go to any lengths and spare no expense — or life — in order to keep the CIA’s secrets buried.” His nickname? The Eraser. Um, yikes much?!

What’s Morgan going to be up to on Chuck? — Laurie
Well, if you watched last night’s episode (and you really should have), you saw that Morgan stepped up to protect John Casey’s secret second assignment with the GRETAs (who are no more)! According to co-creator Chris Fedak, that somewhat speaks to the relationship the writers are building between the two. “We have some really funny stuff coming up in regard to the odd couple that is Morgan Grimes and Col. John Casey. It’s a peculiar decision to decide to room with your girlfriend’s dad. But they’re also very good friends and Morgan needed a place to crash,” he dishes. “Going forward, we really like the idea of Morgan as Chuck season 1, the guy who’s experiencing the spy world anew, fresh. We have some really interesting ideas about where we’re going with him in this season and how it all folds back to John Casey and his girlfriend Alex.” And if things get out of hand, it’s good to know that Sarah always has her tranq gun.

So Chuck brought the Old Spice guy [Isaiah Mustafa] and Stacy Keibler back to the show last night, any chance we’re going to get to see Summer Glau come back? – Rick

It could be a while. Not that Fedak doesn’t want to see her return, but it’s a creative pickle. “I would love to bring Summer Glau back,” Fedak says. “She, of course, left on bad terms at the end of her episode. She had kind of run afoul of Col. John Casey, but, listen, if we have the opportunity, I would love to bring summer Glau back. She’s just wonderful.”

Ausiello Renewal spoilers

Question: Any word on a renewal for Chuck yet? I hope to God that it comes back next season! —Archana

Ausiello: Let’s put it this way: Boss men Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak are in no way, shape or form being subtle in expressing to NBC their expectation that the show will return. How unsubtle? The title of the May 16 season finale is “Chuck vs. The Cliffhanger."

The Gretas return

The Gretas of Chuck are no more.

In Monday’s episode, Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) and Chuck (Zachary Levi) will find out that the side mission Casey (Adam Baldwin) has been working on involves him joining a new team. And his co-workers are not called Greta anymore.

Yvonne Strahovski on her Chuck engagement: What Moonlighting curse?

Former pro wrestling star Stacy Keibler and Old Spice guy Isaiah Mustafa return to the Chuck-verse as sleuths who have become Intersects like Chuck. If this promo isn’t proof enough, someone else now knows kung fu!

“I’m doing a little bit of kung fu and I went through gun training, so I’m doing a lot more physical stuff,” Keibler tells TVGuide.com. “In this episode, you’re going to get a little bit of back story as to what we were actually doing as the Gretas and see who we really are.”

Her character, now known as Capt. Victoria, is actually partners with fellow former Greta, Capt. Rick (Mustafa). As you might guess, Chuck will take a kick out of the “Rick and Vic” moniker. In the episode, “You see them earning their stripes,” Mustafa says. “You see how they become the new duo.”

So who are these agents? They belong to Bentley (Robin Givens), whom we briefly met a few episodes back when she approached Casey to quit being the backup man and finally step into the spotlight.

NBC announces season-finale dates

Bentley happens to have a friendly rivalry with the Team Intersect boss, Gen. Beckman (Bonita Friedericy). “Bentley definitely respects that Beckman’s good at what she does, but she also thinks that she’s good at what she does, so she enjoys that sparring,” Givens says. “She really has something in mind that she wants, so she’s willing to go around Beckman to get it.”

“She’s a no-nonsense gal who really is coming in to shake things up a little bit,” Givens continues. “I don’t really think she has any mercy with [Casey, Chuck and Sarah] in terms of the relationships that have already been established.”

As for Chuck, Givens says her character will “push him emotionally. She’s going to challenge him. How good are you at what you do? She challenges both [Chuck and Sarah] and says, ‘Look, my guys can be better than your guys.’”

“Sarah gets very offended and doesn’t take it very well,” Strahovski says of Casey’s new team. “She’s just so used to having Casey and Chuck at her side that for Casey to be doing anything that she has no idea about is a betrayal almost. They try and resolve things.”

Chuck airs Mondays at 8/7c on NBC.

Chuck‘s awesome. Any news? — J.J.

[Breaking news: Your question made me laugh out loud. Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming…] Monday’s Chuck is going to answer many of the questions you have about the GRETA, and in many ways acts as a launching pad for the next couples of episodes. It also marks the return of Isaiah Mustafa and Stacy Keebler, who find themselves at odds with Chuck and Sarah. “We definitely wanted to see some of the GRETA characters we established earlier in the season and see what happened to them next and explain what the government was up to and why there were GRETAs inside the Buy More,” says co-creator Chris Fedak. “Once we got the order for more episodes, after the initial 13, we were like ‘Oh, we gotta get in there and explain what the GRETA project was.’ And so it was kinda neat to take those characters, who we’d only had a little big of time with in episode 2 and episode 3 [of the season], and say, ‘Well, let’s explore them; let’s meet them a little bit better.’”

I need me some Chuck scoop! — Elise

There’s trouble in the spy world — and not in the normal way where they can simply shoot something and solve their problem. It’s more of an internal issue. “Casey is very much tied into what’s happening with the GRETA project at this moment. He might very well be in charge of this project. So there’s tension within the team. There’s a rift growing,” Fedak explains. “The question, and essentially where the A-Team title comes from — is: Who is the A Team? Is it Chuck and Sarah or is it Casey and his new team? That’s definitely at the heart of this episode.”

Chuck spoilers, while we wait!

Question: Any word on a renewal for Chuck yet? I hope to God that it comes back next season! —Archana
Ausiello: Per TVLine’s Renewal Scorecard, it’s holding steady at “Could go either way” — an assessment recently confirmed by an NBC insider. On the scoop front, General Hospital‘s Lisa LoCicero has been cast as Daphne Peralta, the titular, Jersey-bred adversary in this season’s 21st episode, “Chuck vs. the Wedding Planner.” (And though I say “adversary,” no, she is not from the spy realm.)

Chuck scoop pretty, pretty please with chocolate sauce on top (just not the way Morgan and Alex used it…ewww). — Ann
Since you brought up couples, what about some news on one of our favorite TV couples: Chuck (Zachary Levi) and Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski)? When Gary Cole reprises his role as Sarah’s papa, expect not only to learn more about Sarah’s backstory, but also to witness the pair seeing new sides of each other. “I think when you decide to take the leap, and you’re engaged to be married, you’re going to learn more about the person you’ve decided to spend the rest of your life with, but you often learn what they’re like in the most grueling of life situations,” co-creator Chris Fedak says. “And that isn’t disarming a bomb of prepping for a mission — it’s preparing yourself for a wedding.”

Lauren: Chuck intel, por favor!
Zachary Levi was gracious enough to give us the goods on how much trouble Lauren Cohan will be causing. “We’re going to get some super secret weapon component,” he tells us. “Then [Vivian] shows up unexpectedly and all hell breaks loose and Bob’s your uncle.” Sidenote, when was the last time you heard someone use the phrase “Bob’s your uncle?” Keep being you, Zach.

Heather_r_Flynn: How does a season five for Chuck look?
Always on the bubble, never above it. Beyond it? Off it? Whatever, we’re counting on a season five of Chuck, and the cast seems very optimistic about it as well. “I think [the chances] are pretty good,” Yvonne Strahovski says. “I will be surprised if we don’t get a season five.” Adam Baldwin dittos his costar’s hopeful attitude. “I feel cautiously optimistic. Until you hear the go sign, I just remain cautiously optimistic.” Give us that go sign already, NBC!

STAY TUNED EXCLUSIVE: SARAH WALKER FACES FAMILY DRAMA ON ‘CHUCK’ – GARY COLE RETURNS

‘Chuck’ devoted much of the first half of its current season to the search for Chuck’s mom. Now that the Bartowski clan is reunited, however, it’s Sarah Walker’s turn for family drama.

Before we get to that, here are a quick few words from ‘Chuck’ co-creator and executive producer Chris Fedak on what to expect from tonight’s episode, ‘Chuck vs. the First Bank of Evil’: “Sarah Walker in a catsuit, with a machine gun.” Plus Ray Wise guest stars along with Lauren Cohan, who returns as Vivian Volkoff.

Sold. Now, moving on to Sarah’s daddy issues …

We first met Sarah’s dad, Jack Burton, in the season 2 episode ‘Chuck vs. the DeLorean,’ and he comes back into her life in the 21st episode of season 4, which airs April 25. Burton, who’s played by Gary Cole (who’s currently recurring on ‘The Good Wife’), is a longtime con man who hasn’t changed his ways since Sarah was a little girl helping him out with his scams.

“We have a con at the heart of the [Jack] episode,” Fedak said in an interview. “There are actually multiple cons. We definitely put Chuck and Sarah out there — they could potentially get into a lot of trouble,” given that they are government employees and that Jack has spent his life flouting the law. Getting mixed up with Jack again will prove to be a challenge for the duo, personally and professionally.

Will things get even more complicated for Sarah before the season is over? Given that mothers have loomed so large on ‘Chuck’ of late, I had to ask — might we meet Sarah’s mom? Fedak said he didn’t “want to make any promises” about that happening this season, but he it’s something he and fellow creator Josh Schwartz would like to explore at some point.

“We’d love to get into that,” he said. “We do have some ideas” about where a Mama Walker story could go.

It sounds like that story isn’t on the front burner just now, though. What is on Chuck and Sarah’s minds? Wedding bells, of course.

Fedak was cagey about a Chuck-Sarah wedding, and would only speak about such an event in hypothetical terms, though he allowed that a wedding is an obvious end point for an engagement.

But, he cautioned, “what if the bad guys got in the way? Anything is possible on this show.”

So is Vivian Volkoff a bad guy? I asked if Vivian, the daughter of ubervillain Alexei Volkoff, would be the Big Bad of the second half of the season.

It sounds as though it’s not quite as simple as that. Fedak said for the rest of the season, Vivian will be “tempted by the dark side.”

As Fedak explained, Vivian’s story is a “bizarro, dark version of Chuck’s story.” It rocked Chuck’s world to find out his father was actually an espionage mastermind, and it similarly upended Vivian’s life to discover that her father was a supervillain. Now that she knows the truth, she has to decide whether to follow his path or not.

“She walks the line between being a Volkoff and being someone” who creates her own path, Fedak said.

Because I just couldn’t let the topic go, I had to ask if the hypothetical wedding that may occur this season could, in fact, be a double wedding, perhaps involving Morgan Guillermo Grimes and his lady love, Alex?

“I think the idea of one wedding on the show makes my head hurt,” Fedak said with a laugh. “The idea of a double wedding would make my head explode.”
