CHUCK’S YVONNE STRAHOVSKI WEIGHS IN ON SARAH’S STRUGGLES WITH THE WEDDING

Chuck’s Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski) has been anything but the regular “girl next door” in the NBC spy series, even when she was quite literally working next door to the Buy More. We have gotten to know her– and she has gotten to know parts of herself– in a way that no one probably expected when she first took the assignment and got involved in young Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi)’s life. She has taken great strides toward opening up emotionally, letting other people in, and accepting help from time to time. But she still has aways to go, especially when it comes to her personal life.

“I think she’s come a long way from the first season until now, but she still has a bit of a journey. I think she still has some work to do to become as comfortable as possible with the life with Chuck and living with him,” Strahovski agreed when LA TV Insider Examiner visited the Burbank set of Chuck earlier this month.

In “Chuck vs the C.A.T. Squad”, Sarah confronted a part of her past she thought she had frozen out of her life when her fiancé surprised her and brought back her old team, a group of Charlie’s Angel’s-esque girls. It wasn’t just learning to put past grudges aside that showed Sarah’s newfound maturity, though; she also had to confront her true feelings about her family situation when she attended her own engagement party– one that potentially could have been devoid of anyone from “her side.”

“I would like to see some family stuff [be explored],” Strahovski shared. “We don’t know what’s going to happen with the wedding or who’s going to come back…[and we did] meet some girls from Sarah’s past, which is fun, but I would love to look into the whole dad thing again and see what happened with the mom.”

After all, as far as Sarah has come with Chuck, she may not quite be whole without putting the pieces of her own family together. Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) and perhaps even Mary (Linda Hamilton) can help fill a physical void, but as time goes on and Sarah sees their own mother-daughter bond deepen, it is sure to scratch at an already fresh wound.

“I think a part of her has been wanting [a family] for a long time, and even though she doesn’t know what it feels like, it seems that she does want a sense of security, and she’s found that in Chuck. She treasures it, even though there are still things surrounding that relationship that can still make her uncomfortable,” Strahovski admitted.

What could possibly make a kick-ass woman like Sarah uncomfortable? Well, how about a big, fancy wedding! Sarah isn’t exactly your typical girly-girl who might have tied a towel on her head playing bride as a kid!

Strahovski laughed and confirmed that she was sure there’d be some of the Bartowski women meddling, or perhaps more appropriately, helping Sarah in the areas where she lacks proficiency.

“I don’t think she understands how to plan a wedding or where to begin. I don’t think she knows why she is supposed to be excited about it at this point in time,” Strahovski pontificated.

“I think she’s excited about being with Chuck and loving Chuck, and that will never change. But being a girly-girl is something that she struggles with. I mean, she can fake it for a mission, but when it comes to actually being that person in real life, I think she’s still learning.”

It is in those more emotional and so-called “teaching moments” that we see the most interesting and diverse to both Sarah and Strahovski, after all. And those are the moments the fans feel confident will have her earning an Emmy nomination for her work in this fourth season. A fan campaign has cropped up online, taking out ads in Emmy Magazine and flooding Twitter with the hashtag of #Emmy4Yvonne in order to spread their cause around.

Strahovski, who was extremely flattered that the fans would rally for her in this way, said it was certainly a dream to be nominated but she still thought it was a long-shot. She might be too humble to expect any accolades or awards, but her work speaks for itself. And as the wedding plans elaborate because the date creeps closer, something tells us there will be plenty more emotional work to draw from when sending clips for consideration to the Academy!

You can see Strahovski kick-ass (and often literally!) when Chuck airs on NBC Mondays at 8pm.

Well, Ellie will be instrumental in planning the wedding with Sarah. And I'm curious what place MamaB will take in all of this... she's been absent the last few episodes. As always, the show looks great in HD on my DISH Network service. As a DISH customer/employee I can tell you that DISH has more HD channels than any other provider, and always at the lowest all-digital prices. You should definitely check it out. As a sidenote, on last night's episode... do we think Vivian is going to takeover as Alexei's successor? And is MamaB going to rejoin Volkhoff Industries, since that is all she has known the last umpteen years?
