The video game enthusiast and fan favourite has been tapped to host Spike TV's Video Game Awards, The hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.

Levi, who in addition to his duties on NBC's Chuck also serves as a voice actor for games Fallout: New Vegas and Halo: Reach, will host the awards that will air live from Los Angeles on Spike TV, MTV2 and Spike.com on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 5 p.m.

We at team Chuck are a humble bunch, but we can’t deny that we’re very proud to share this with you. Season five of Chuck. Take a moment…let that sink in. Season five of Chuck!

We’ve learned a lot over the past five years: You can disarm a bomb with fruit juice, arcade skills, or some good old-fashioned Internet pornography. Never underestimate the power of sandwiches in renewal negotiations. And then there are those two semesters of brain science we took, just to confirm that sunglasses really can teach someone kung-fu. (First lesson: It’s not called “brain science.” Second lesson. Of course they can. They’re sunglasses.)

But most importantly, we’ve learned how great it is to be part of such a loyal and enthusiastic community. We wouldn’t be here in season five if it weren’t for you and our fans. Your support has been critical not just in making this show possible, but in making it such an enjoyable ride.

This season will take Chuck back to the basics, as he and his team go independent as Carmichael Industries. Without the help of the CIA or the Intersect in his head, Chuck is once again the underdog, relying more than ever on his wits, his team, and also on a new Intersect — Morgan Grimes. And as Chuck and Sarah begin life as newlywed spy partners, they’re led to consider the future of their spy life. In addition, we’re excited to have a new cast of guest stars on board, including Mark Hamill, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Cheryl Ladd. Who else could be Sarah’s mom but an original Angel?

Warning, Chuck fans: You may want to go all kung fu on NBC after reading this next sentence: The show’s fifth (and final) season premiere has been pushed back.

The return of Chuck and the debut of freshman series Grimm have been delayed a week, and will now air on Friday, Oct. 28 in order to accommodate NBC’s two-day block of Halloween-themed programming. The net’s Thursday night comedy lineup (Community, Parks and Recreation, The Office and Whitney) kicks things off on Thursday, Oct. 27.

Exclusive: Stan Lee, the legendary Marvel icon to star on "Chuck"

“Chuck” has been loading up on the nerd-bait casting for the spy comedy’s fifth and final season. Guest stars already announced for the new season, set to debut on Friday, October 21, include Mark Hamill, Carrie-Anne Moss and “Community” star Danny Pudi.

To that list we can now add perhaps the most Comic Con-friendly guest star of all time: Stan Lee, legendary co-creator of Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four and almost every other iconic Marvel Comics character (including most of the roster of Joss Whedon’s “Avengers” film).

Lee will appear in the fifth season’s seventh episode where, according to the info I have, “Chuck encounters Stan Lee in the most unexpected of places,” a setting that might suggest The Man has “a secret identity of his own.”

“Chuck” co-creator Chris Fedak said, “To say we’re excited to have Stan Lee join us on the show is an understatement. His iconic characters and the epic worlds he imagined have been inspirations to all of us working on ‘Chuck.’”

Lee has played himself in many movies and TV shows over the years, and has never been afraid to ham it up – which should make him fit in just fine as a “Chuck” guest.

Last year, Chuck introduced us to its title spy’s mom, Linda Hamilton. And this year? For its final season, the show is introducing Sarah’s mom, Emma. The possibly recurring character is described as a beautiful blonde who is, in essence, a walking hug. Our suggestions to play the part:

* Carrie Fisher: Not only does her Star Wars bro, Mark Hamill, guest in this season’s opener — making her casting an almost-reunion — the erstwhile Princess Leia just dropped a ton of weight. And what’s the old saying? If you lost it, flaunt it!

* Rene Russo: Check out these credentials, would ya? A past in crimefighting? Check. (Lethal Weapon 4.) An aptitude for espionage? Check. (The Thomas Crown Affair.) A sense of humor? Check. (The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle.) An innate huggability? Um… Okay, on second thought…

* Cheryl Ladd: It’s been decades since this former Charlie’s Angel donned her halo, but in addition to still looking like a million bucks, the actress — who next appears on NCIS — has maintained exactly the air of sweetness that this role requires.

As far as TV shows that descend upon the San Diego Comic-Con go, the “mothership” — NBC’s Chuck — infiltrated Ballroom 20 on Saturday morning, kicking off a jam-packed convention line-up. What did Zachary Levi, Joshua Gomez, Adam Baldwin and the rest have to share about the upcoming final season?

For starters, we must say: May the Force be with you, Team Bartowski, given that Star Wars alum Mark Hamill will guest as a big baddie in the fifth and final season premiere, airing Friday, Oct. 21, at 8/7c. Since portraying Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy, Hamill has largely stuck to voice work, lending his pipes to myriad animated projects, including TV’s Spider-Man, Justice League, Avatar: The Last Airbender and Robot Chicken — to name but a smattering. Now, For Your Eyes Only, let us hit you with the panel’s other highlights:

“Back to Basics” | Now that Morgan is the acting intersect, Chuck will have to readjust to life as one of us normal folk. “He definitely at the beginning of our season wants those powers, but this season is back-to-basics for Chuck,” says executive producer Chris Fedak. “Chuck has to be far greater now. It’s very much about him coming up with those clever, smart solutions again, and having to be a real spy.”

New and Improved? | So, what is the plan for Chuck’s BFF, now that he’s the big bad Intersect? “In true Morgan Grimes fashion, it’s full steam ahead,” Joshua Gomez laughs. “Unlike Chuck, where he thought things through and cared about the welfare of other human beings, Morgan just wants to hurt people and take revenge. I couldn’t be more excited about it.” Just how boldly will the Buy More’s former assistant manager embrace his badass new skillz? Says Fedak, “Let’s put it this way: By the third episode, Morgan will have frosted his tips.”

Love Story | “Casey has either met his match, or his love match,” Baldwin teased of his toughie’s new romantic arc. Fedak adds, “Her name is Gertrude Verbanski. Chuck will now be running Carmichael Industries and their big competition is the Verbanski Corp., the best spy company in the world.”

The Break-Up | Avert your eyes now, Jeffster fans: “This is the season where it all falls apart between Jeff and Lester,” Fedak reveals. “It’s going to be a great war and…very dramatic.” Of course, before all is said and done, “We’ll definitely do another Jeffster number before the end of the year. They’ll go out with a bang.”

Casting Scoop | “We have a couple big bad guys that we don’t want to reveal just yet,” Hamill included, Fedak shared. As for General Beckman’s place in Team Bartowski’s new world, “Bonita [Friedericy] is still very much a part of the show,” Fedak maintained.

Job Security | While Fedak promises that “the Buy More is still very important” this season, Vik Sahay (aka Lester) has just one major concern: “I just hope this season that I get some scenes in the actual show.” Preach!

Gloom and Doom | “Someone might not survive this season,” Fedak warned of Chuck‘s final go-round. Such possible loss, he said, “will be big.”

Awesome Endeavor | Previewing Captain and Mrs. Awesome’s Season 5 adventures, Fedak said, “Now Ellie knows about Chuck’s spy life, so it’s much more of a family business.”

Mama Drama | Nothing is set in stone just yet, but Fedak says, “I’d love to have Linda Hamilton back on the show. It wouldn’t be the show without bringing Mama Bartowski back one more time.”

Super Spinoff | When asked if a Chuck offshoot is even the most remote possibility, Fedak’s response surprised us all. “Definitely,” he offered. “I love the idea that the end of a show is just a prologue for another adventure.” So, there’s hope for that Morgan/Casey/Odd Couple thing afterall.

Dream Weavers | Everyone’s got an opinion about how Chuck should wrap things up in its final season — even the cast. How should it all go down, Zach Levi? “Awesomely,” he offers. Said Ryan McPartlin, “I would like a feature trilogy,” while Sahay wants to see Lester “go out with a glorious death — preferably in slo-mo.” Scott Krinsky (aka Jeff) thinks there somehow “needs to be a baby Jeffster by the end of the show to carry on the legacy.” Some of the cast, though, are actually still holding out hope for more Chuck to present itself. “I’m still not convinced it will end this year,” Baldwin mused. And when asked how he’d like to see it end, Gomez simply replied, “I don’t.”

Curtain Call | An emotional Levi wrapped up Chuck‘s final Comic-Con appearance by thanking the fans with a tearful send-off, his voice cracking with emotion at times: “You guys are so epic, so awesome. All of the time and the money that you spend… you took energy out of your lives, and I just want to thanks.”

Chuck Final Season Scoop: Morgan and Chuck’s New “Intersect”ion and a Possible Casey Romance?

No amount of five-dollar footlongs will extend Chuck beyond its final, 13-episode season this fall. But series co-creator Chris Fedak tells TVGuide.com that knowing this is the end gives them the opportunity to wrap up its stories in a satisfying way for their loyal, sandwich-filled fans.

At the end of Season 4, we saw Chuck (Zachary Levi) and Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) finally tie the knot, purchase the Buy More and start their own freelance spy agency. Meanwhile, pal Morgan (Joshua Gomez) got a surprise when he slid on some shades meant for Chuck and accidentally uploaded the Intersect. “You have the skeleton of a new show,” Fedak says. So, what’s next? Will Chuck and Co. get a happy ending?

How does Morgan handle having the Intersect in him? Does he handle it differently from how Chuck did in the first season?
Fedak: Chuck having the Intersect, it was like, “Please get it out of my head. I want my life back.” Morgan thinks it’s the beginning of only awesome things. Morgan is incredibly stoked to have the Intersect inside of him. Here’s a guy who for years has been Chuck’s best friend. Chuck has helped out Morgan so many times and saved his bacon from the fifth grade on, and that is their relationship. And now Morgan is the guy who has the supercomputer in his head and has all these abilities, so he’s jazzed and excited to be on the team and to be a part of it. He just wants to be a spy right now.

What sort of concerns were there for giving Morgan the Intersect? Some fans weren’t too pleased with the decision.
Fedak: I think there’s always a degree of anxiety when you mess around with the bones of the show and the archetypes. Going into Season 5, we think it’s neat to change things up so that Chuck doesn’t have the Intersect now. He has to be a spy without the supercomputer training wheels. He has to go back to being the smartest guy in the room, having the Chuck solution. And now he has a friend who has the supercomputer in his head, and Chuck has become sort of like Sarah was: He has to become Morgan’s handler. He’s the one who has been out there in the world and now must take care of Morgan. And they still need the Intersect to get out of problems and be a successful company.

Will Chuck try to find a way to get the Intersect back for himself?
Fedak: Hmm, I may not be able to answer that, but I would think he certainly thinks about it. Absolutely.

What more can we expect from the Bartowski family?
Fedak: The show is also about family so certainly Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) and Awesome (Ryan McPartlin) will be part of the show. Chuck’s the spy who never wanted to leave. James Bond left. James Bond didn’t have a family. It was just James Bond. Most heroes don’t have always have a family, whereas Chuck is the guy who didn’t want to leave his family and his sister and his brother-in-law and now his niece. So the Bartowski family is certainly going to be part of the show.

If last season was about family ties and Chuck and Sarah’s relationship, what is the upcoming season about?
Fedak: Most important is Chuck and Sarah building a future together, that idea of the Bartowskis trying to imagine what their future is going to be. And they’re building a company, a spy company. Chuck needs to create his own successful private CIA. The other part of it too is the relationship between Chuck and Morgan — all things evolve. Now they’re working in the same company together, it’s also about their friendship. All these things are challenges. I think that going out on their own is very much a part of this season. One, what happens when you don’t have the Intersect? And two, what happens when you don’t have the CIA and their resources?

Will the show jump ahead in time to establish their new spy agency?
Fedak: There will be a time jump, a few months. You’ll definitely get a feel for the new spy agency. There will be a new version of Castle. There aren’t any new employees yet, but they are looking to hire. They will be looking to expand at some point.

Will there still be crossover with the CIA? Will we see General Beckham (Bonita Friedericy) again?
Fedak: Well, when you’re in the spy world, it’s hard not to get involved with the CIA. There will certainly be crosses, and we will see General Beckham again.

How much will we see the Buy More? And will we be seeing a farewell performance courtesy of Jeffster?
Fedak: There certainly will be activity with the Buy More. Chuck and Sarah now own the Buy More so it’s become a part of their portfolio as the new Carmichael Industries. And since they’ve got new spy company, they will look at the Buy More as a profit center. So it’s important that the Buy More be a successful store. Jeffster lives, let me put it that way.

How will Sarah be changed this season? Now that she’s married to Chuck, she’s no longer the unattainable girl.
Fedak: There are two things. For years, she has been a person who’s been a committed spy and excellent at her job. Now being married to Chuck and running this company, people’s dreams begin to change. Watching her evolve over the four seasons so far and going into the fifth season, is seeing how she becomes more of a human being. But I do think that there is still a part of her that will always be unattainable. Even though Chuck lives with her, there are parts of Sarah that are still unattainable, secrets and thoughts. I think that’s part of Yvonne’s performance and all the character that we find so endearing and why Chuck loves her.

Will she have the biological clock ticking, that glint in her eye? Will she start having conversations about a baby Bartowski?
Fedak: It’s certainly something our characters would consider and talk about. It does not make for the sexiest spy missions, though, is all I’ll say. I had to deal with so many pregnancies — real and fake — last year though, so I might be out of the pregnancy game for a little bit.

Like Sarah, Casey’s also evolved to be a bit more human over four seasons. How will that continue?
Fedak: We had a lot of fun last year with Casey (Adam Baldwin) and the story with his daughter Alex. That’s something that we definitely play into this season. The fact that Morgan is dating Alex and that Morgan has the Intersect, and Casey is obviously fond of Morgan in his own sort of weird “slap to the back of the head” way — all that’s something we explore. Casey is dealing with all of these father and friend, human feelings that he’s not used to.

Casey needs some love! What sort of chances are there for a romance this season?
Fedak: I would say that as a fan of Adam Baldwin, I am most excited for the idea of having him in a torrid romance. There’s certainly a chance.

What sorts of blasts from the past have you guys discussed returning to the show? What dream plots will you try to fit into this last season?
Fedak: I’d love to do that. There are so many characters that I enjoy from our past. We’re working right now on some very big stories. We’ve put together such a great cast over the years that I’d love to bring them back. We only starting getitng casting now for the first episode, so I don’t have anything to tell you yet. We have a bunch of ideas, but I don’t want to give you our spy world-type things . We don’t want to get to the end of the year and think, “Oh, we should have done this.” That always happens at the end of any season.

Will there be a happy ending for Chuck and his friends?
Fedak: We have an ending in mind. I won’t give away if it’s a happy ending or not. It’s something that we’re building to. For the writers on the show, we have a unique opportunity to close out story and tell our final chapter. You don’t always get that opportunity on television so we’re excited to build out the most exciting, the most dramatic version of an ending for the show that we can possibly imagine.

How long have you kept in mind this ending? Was this something you brought to NBC to get the fifth season?
Fedak: We started to think about it at the end of last year. As we were starting to build the final for Season 4 and we knew there was a possibility for a Season 5, we started thinking about where we would take Season 5 and what the ending would be. We certainly went in and pitched them Season 5.

How action-packed will the finale be?
Fedak: I would certainly say that it would be action-y. We probably won’t bring back the Nighthawk, but we’ll have something. Listen, I loved the motorcycle. It was an interesting departure. All of a sudden we were in a different TV show. I loved that.

Have there been discussions of someone important to Chuck dying this season? Has this been a consideration?
Fedak: All I’ll say to that is, “Hmm …”

Chuck’s final season will take over Friday nights beginning on Oct. 21 at 8/7c on NBC.

I think I speak for Chuck fans everywhere when I say thank the lord almighty that tonight’s season finale wasn’t a series finale. The show’s 11th hour Season 5 renewal ensures that the climactic twist — make that twists — in the closing minutes of tonight’s episode marks the beginning of Chuck’s next (and last) chapter and not the end. In case you missed it, a quick recap: Chuck and Sarah “inherited” Volkoff’s vast empire and, after being pink-slipped by the CIA, decided to open their own spy agency. They also purchased the Buy More. Oh, and Morgan has taken possession of the Intersect. Craziness! To help make sense of what went down and how it impacts the show’s final 13-episode fifth season, exec producer Chris Fedak phoned TVLine for the most awesome post mortem ever.

TVLINE | I know you’ve issued a personal moratorium on the phrase game-changer, so allow me to congratulate you on your premise-altering finale. The show’s like Hart to Hart now!
I actually think it’s Hart to Hart meets The A-Team. [Laughs] It’s certainly a big switch for the show. But it’s also going back to the basics. We really wanted to get back to what it’s like when Chuck — who has a little bit of experience under his belt — doesn’t have the super computer in his head anymore. Now his best friend Morgan has the super computer in his head and he needs him. We think that’s a really fun way to [evolve] the show, because Morgan very much speaks to Chuck in Season 1. The fish out of water; the guy who hasn’t been on every spy mission and doesn’t know what to do in a gunfight. But now he has to be brought along on the missions. And for Chuck, he’s the guy who’s becoming a hero, becoming a professional, becoming a spy. He’s kind of almost a little bit like Casey and Sarah in Season 1, having to protect this doofus on spy missions.

TVLINE | Will Chuck and Sarah open up an office? Is the government going to contract cases out to them? How will it work?
I don’t want to give away too much but you’re in the world of what we’re talking about. The show wouldn’t be the show without the Buy More. And Chuck has realized that he has the perfect cover with the Buy More, so that will still be a part of the show. It’ll be a part of their cover operation — even though they’ll have a private spy agency. And also Chuck now owns the Buy More, so he’s not simply running a spy agency, he also owns and operates the Buy More. And we’re going to have some fun with that.

TVLINE | What happens to General Beckman?
Bonita [Friedericy] is fantastic and she is certainly a part of the show, but it’s going to be different.

TVLINE | Does the spy agency have a name yet?
It doesn’t have a name yet. That’s an interesting thing we have to think about. I hadn’t thought about that.

TVLINE | How will immense wealth change Chuck and Sarah?
I can’t wait to see what Chuck does with a billion dollars. I also know that he’s going to get into a lot of trouble. It’s going to be fun. It’s the exact wrong person to have so much money in his hands.

TVLINE | Will there be a new mythology thread running through the final season?
We’ve always had two sides to the mythology on our show: We have the emotional mythology of our characters’ backstories, and we also have the spy mythology. And both of those things will be part of the new season. I think that’s what is great about Season 5, the ability to get into the character mythology. Some of my favorite episodes are the ones with Sarah’s backstory, Morgan’s backstory, and Casey’s backstory. We’ll have a spy mythology as well, but we’ll probably get into it a little differently.

TVLINE | Has Josh Gomez been ordered to hit the gym? Or at least start taking martial arts classes?
I would never ever do that. The man is in too good of shape. He’s perfect the way he is. I wouldn’t pluck a single hair from his beard.

TVLINE | It’s safe to say he’ll be called on to do more than he has in the past physically-speaking, yes?
That’s absolutely true. I guess I should probably tell him he should start stretching.

TVLINE | Switching gears to the fifth season renewal, did you discuss setting an end date with NBC? Or was this all their call?
We went in and pitched them Season 5, which is very much a climactic story for Chuck. It wasn’t exactly designed to be the final season, but it’s certainly a big, emotionally satisfying, epic story. They liked the story, but there were also business factors that they considered. They ultimately picked us up and decided to make it the last season.

TVLINE | Given the show’s underdog and rocky ratings history, do you view this 13-episode wrap-up as something akin to a miracle?
Absolutely. We’ve always been very lucky, first for our incredibly loyal fan base. And second because Warner Bros. and NBC have been supportive of the show. We’re a unique, special show — there’s nothing else quite like it on television. We’re very lucky to have people that have supported it, protected it, and allowed us to get to a point where we could do a fifth season and tell the final chapter of this story in a really satisfying way.

Chuck Finale Set Visit: Saving Sarah Walker and the Cast’s Season 5 Wish List

On a sunny day at the North Hollywood Medical Center, Chuck is shooting its Season 4 finale (airing Monday at 8/7c on NBC), in which spy and bride-to-be Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski) is hospitalized — near death — after an attack by Vivian Volkoff (Lauren Cohan). Despite the subject matter, the mood on the set is anything but grim.

“It’s a crazy roller coaster of love, and I’m gonna stand on that,” star Zachary Levi tells reporters, describing the show’s genre-spanning style. He might as well be referring to the cast and crew’s camaraderie though.

NBC renews Chuck for fifth and final season

Throughout the long day, everyone enjoys each other’s company behind the scenes. Levi and Joshua Gomez play up their on- and off-screen bromance, Ryan McPartlin interview-bombs Sarah Lancaster while we’re asking her questions, Adam Baldwin teases Gomez, and Levi rides through the hallways on a skateboard, while his TV mom played by Linda Hamilton playfully yells after him, “You’re going to hurt yourself! Get off of that!”

It’s a reflection of how tight the team is on the show also, especially when one of their own could die. In the previous episode, Vivian had activated the “Norseman” — which identifies a specific person’s DNA — and targeted Sarah in the middle of her and Chuck’s rehearsal dinner. “Sarah’s fighting for her life, which throws a major kink in everything: our relationship, our wedding plans,” Levi explains. “So everyone is having to work together in order to save the day. Like we often do on the show.”

“My character has sort of been poisoned in a way, so Chuck has to find the antidote,” Strahovski adds. Today, the lithe actress looks particularly fetching in a gown … a hospital gown that is. “I’m unconscious for the whole day. It’s my favorite day of the week,” she says. “I get to sleep all day in a hospital bed, which I’ve never done before. Usually I’m fighting, doing something or other. It’s good, it’s relaxing.”

There’s only one problem with being too comfortable, however. “I kind of started falling asleep [for real] which is bad,” she says. “I need to be in a coma, so if I start twitching it’s not good.”

Morgan Grimes (Gomez) might be able to help. This season, Chuck’s best friend has been splitting his time between the Buy More and helping out on missions. “As part of this silly, ragtag team now, I’m here to try to help in whatever way I can help get Sarah back up on her feet and to the aisle,” Gomez says. “‘Cause I want nothing more than these two crazy kids to marry. I’m keeping a watchful eye over Sarah at her bedside, telling her stories of our youth. I have a good bedside manner.”

Earlier that day, we saw Gomez walk through the hospital set and approach a man who looks like a CIA agent. Before Gomez can jump into action, McPartlin, who plays Chuck’s brother-in-law Devon “Captain Awesome” Woodcomb, knocks the guy out. “He steals my thunder,” says Gomez. “I was on my way over there, debating whether to sweep the leg, or karate kick, or judo chop, roundhouse punch.”

“Awesome is called off the bench and gets into the spy game a little,” McPartlin says. “You get to see him actually applying some of his knowledge in L.A. and trying to save the day. And let’s be honest, my character is more suited for it even though Morgan is now a staple of the spy world. I think Captain Awesome is very jealous and very angry. But when Awesome and Morgan are together, I think it just brings up the pace and the level of excitement and laughs.”

Chuck has also exploited another fine bromance this season: the relationship between Morgan and Agent John Casey (Baldwin). Not only is Casey mentoring him in the spy world, but also overseeing the romance between his daughter Alex (Mekenna Melvin) and Morgan. “In the finale, Casey is protecting Chuck and this one [Morgan],” says Baldwin. “This one’s coming along. He’s a lot smarter, and his technical attributes are improving episode by episode. Casey clearly understands he’s a good guy. So he wishes [Alex and Morgan] the best … so long as they don’t kiss in front of Casey too often.”

It’s not that Casey is against romance, but he’s never been terribly demonstrative with his affection in his own relationships. Although Baldwin thinks that a new love interest could be in Casey’s future, he’s not sure if the viewing audience would be ready for it. “What if it were Chuck’s mom?” he muses. “A Casey love interest at 8 o’clock? Nah, he needs 10 o’clock — or Showtime. But that’s down the road, obviously.”

Down the road will need to be soon, considering Chuck was renewed for a fifth — and final — 13-episode season. At the time, the actors didn’t know if Chuck would be returning, but that didn’t stop several cast members from sounding off on how they’d like to see their characters develop.

Fall TV 2011: What’s in? What’s out?

Recurring guest star Hamilton just wants a regular gig on the show. “I want to come back every episode,” she says. “It’s very hard to sit and wait [between episodes]. Conflict is good, it’s what drives us. If there’s no conflict with my character, then they could kill me. So as long as there’s conflict, I’m good. Keep it alive, that’s how I feel.”

As the responsible new dad to baby Clara on the show, McPartlin keeps his expectations in the domestic realm. “It’s a tricky situation for the writers because we have the kid at home now,” he says. “As adventurous as I am, we have a real responsibility and you can’t take that lightly. However, I think that there is a lot of family drama to play out at home that they can tap into more next season … but I like it when Awesome and Ellie are brought into the spy world by necessity instead of by choice.”

Lancaster, who plays his on-screen spouse Ellie, isn’t hampered by those feelings of parental responsibility. “Give me a gun. More spy stuff. Yeah, put me in some black leather,” she says. “Mom can watch [Clara]. Awesome can watch her. The Buy More guys can watch her.”

Gomez also wants in on more action. “Always more sniper rifles, and I’d like to continue to have more scenes with Adam and Zac, more funny spy stuff,” he says. “Also, The Buy More is fun, and it’s where most of the comedy really stems from.”

“But we’re sick of the color scheme,” adds Baldwin.

Do you think Chuck and Sarah will make it to the altar? What would you like to see in Season 5?

It seemed to be the way to end it appropriately for the fans who love it, and not get into a situation where it might end or might not end and then it ends and we haven’t concluded the storyline. It gives [producers] a chance to plan for it. I think that’s the best way to do it.

Linda Hamilton talks season 4 and season 5 - part 1

Linda Hamilton is an actress that needs no introduction. The woman who helped define strong female archetype roles for women in cinema is most famous for her portrayal of Sarah Connor in THE TERMINATOR and TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY. Hamilton is a beautiful, intelligent and strong woman, but most who would expect her to be like her “tough-as-nails” screen heroine are in for a surprise. The actress is actually a free spirit, and a self-proclaimed Hippie with a quick smile and fantastic sense of humor.

ASSIGNMENT X was lucky enough to get the chance to talk to Hamilton this week in Part 1 of this exclusive interview about her latest acting job as the Spy mother of the title character of the NBC series CHUCK. Hamilton opens up about how she got involved in the show, what twists and turns in her character’s development have surprised her, and whether or not she will be back for another season.
ASSIGNMENT X: How did you come to CHUCK?

LINDA HAMILTON: It was a lucky accident, and the fans have heard this before but, I was at an autograph convention and a fan in line asked me if I was going to be doing CHUCK? I didn’t even know what CHUCK was at that time, but there had been a rumor circulating that they were bringing on the character of Chuck’s mom, and that I might be lined up to play that. I had never heard that rumor so I said, “no, not at all.” Then two weeks later I got a call from my agent telling me they had submitted me for CHUCK. I wish they had told me! [Laughs] They submitted me and I went in and met Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedack; the rest as they say is history.

AX: What drew you to the character?

HAMILTON: I love the attitude. I love the silliness, the “not taking itself too seriously.” That is my middle name, Linda “I Don’t Take Myself too Seriously” Hamilton. So I love that whole feel of the show. Its light on it’s feet, and it’s funny and dramatic, and glamorous. I just love all of that mixed together.

AX: You came onto the show this season, and the other actors have been on it for a few years. What is it like joining a cast during a series that is already established?

HAMILTON: It always feels strange to do that and to be the outsider. As an actor I think I can generally say that we’re a pretty insecure group of people. [Laughs] I’m not really insecure but I did feel the enormity of the job I had to do. It was a little intimidating. Everyone on that show is wonderful! I would like that to be my whole life-long job. Truly, I love the people on that show.
AX: Your character underwent some changes as the season progressed. Was all of that given to you up front or was it parceled out over each episode?

HAMILTON: Episode by episode. I swear to you I had no idea if I was a good girl or a bad girl for about the first seven episodes that I did. People would ask me if I was good or bad and I told them I didn’t know. I asked the show runners and they didn’t know. [Laughs] I was walking a thin line. The complexities of what they work out, even though the show is light on its feet, are amazing as to where the characters are going and who they are. They have to work really hard to pull it all together, and so I think it took a while to bring it all in.

AX: Are you pleased with the journey character has taken this season and where she has ended up?

HAMILTON: Yes! Being a late comer to the show I didn’t know how it was going to work out. Now I have a better understanding of how they work things, and generally the men on that show are the funny ones. It’s Morgan [Joshua Gomez] or Chuck [Zachary Levi]. Sarah [Yvonne Strahovski] is sort of the strong leading man type. [Laughs] Then this year Timothy Dalton. He was a big surprise and he’s hysterical. So I hope that I get to go a little bit more in that direction.

I remember the first few days and the mountains and mountains of dialogue coming out of my mouth. I was nervous as hell. I really was. I remember my very first day in a car and I had just grabbed Chuck after I’ve shot him. I told him, “I shot you to protect you”, which is still one of my favorite lines I’ve ever gotten to say. I had to say to Zachary, “please turn the radio down”, because he was cranking it up in between takes in the car. [Laughs] I didn’t think I was going to make the day, because of all the stuff I had to say. Then I watched other actors come onto the show and go through the same thing. Now of course, it’s chill and I can do anything with any kind of concentration break. That first day though I begged Zach and told him the next week he could play the radio as loud as he wanted to, but I told him he had to be more quiet so I could remember my lines!

AX: You were back in this week’s episode – can you confirm or deny whether you will be in the season finale?

HAMILTON: Absolutely back for the finale!

AX: Would you be up for returning for another season?

HAMILTON: That’s a funny way of asking if I was killed at the end of the season. [Laughs] I’m looking forward to going back next year. I want even more! It’s hard once you’ve started to sit back and not do them. There have been times when they called me and told me I wasn’t doing the next three episodes, and I wondered what I was going to do with myself for the next month?! You aren’t free to look for other work. It’s interesting to go from doing an episode to not doing two or three. It’s interesting to try and fid your balance. You work your ass off and then you don’t work for three weeks, and then you work your ass off, and then you don’t work for a week. So I’m learning how to do that. My favorite job description would be to be on CHUCK every week.

AX: So you’ve enjoyed returning to network TV?

HAMILTON: I did. I liken it to having a baby. Women for centuries have said that God takes the memory of the birth away so that you can have another child, because if you remembered how hard it was and how difficult, you would never have a second child. That’s what I feel like doing a TV series. It had been, lord, twenty years or so since I did BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and that was my last TV show. I had forgotten how much it takes – those sixteen hour days with an hour commute on each end. That’s on a Tuesday, and then you have to continue to come in the rest of the week. I just thought “Holy Mother of God!” [Laughs] But, I love being on the show and being on the Warner Bros. lot. I’ve done a lot of smaller stuff on lots, but this is the longest time I’ve shot on one. I love going to Warner Bros. everyday!

AX: There is a rumor going around that your character is Vivian Volkoff’s mother. Even though your character supposedly never had relations with Volkoff?

HAMILTON: I cannot confirm or deny those rumors, but I think that’s a wonderful direction! I would be the last to know, but I have thought about that same thing because Vivian looks a bit like me. We’ll see what happens! They’ve done such a great job with the Volkoff story.

AX: What’s your favorite part about being on CHUCK?

HAMILTON: For me it’s the comedy. Anytime they give me anything funny to do I’m all over it. Zach has the most amazing timing and the greatest rhythm. I have a lot to learn from these people. I love to watch him and Joshua Gomez go at it. They’re just delightful. I enjoy the fact that we get to do all the stunt stuff and wear false eyelashes. It’s a great mix that way.

AX: CHUCK brings on a lot of famous genre actors. Have you sat on set in between takes and traded war stories?

HAMILTON: Yeah, Robert Englund was brilliant and he was a lot of fun! Who could ever not appreciate where they are, when they are sitting with Robert? I made a huge play for Timothy Dalton and he ignored me. [Laughs] I think I terrify him! But it is great fun. And who isn’t curious about Nicole Richie? I love her style and its all fun.

Chuck’ Actress Joins Barbra Streisand Road Trip Comedy Mother´s Curse

Anne Fletcher is directing the Paramount project, which also stars Seth Rogen.

Yvonne Strahovski, who stars opposite Zachary Levi in Chuck, is joining My Mother’s Curse, Paramount’s road movie starring Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand.

Anne Fletcher (The Proposal) is directing the project with a script by Dan Fogelman (Cars), which he wrote based on his own experience traveling with his mother.

The dramedy follows an inventor (Rogen) who invites his mother (Streisand) on a cross-country trip as he tries to sell his new product while also reuniting her with a lost love.

Strahovski will play Rogen’s high school sweetheart whom he once proposed to.

Lorne Michaels and John Goldwyn are producing along with Evan Goldberg.

Strahovski will be back on Chuck for its just announced fifth and final season. On the big screen, she co-stars with Robert De Niro, Clive Owen and Jason Statham in Killer Elite, which was acquired earlier this week by Open Road Films.

It‘s Chuck versus a new NBC president. And Chuck won!

The perpetual bubbliest of the broadcast bubble shows has once again pulled out a victory, securing a fifth round that will air on NBC next season. The network has ordered 13 episodes for Warner Bros., sources confirm.

For awhile there, things looked possibly bleak for our heroes. New NBC chief Robert Greenblatt took the reins and inherited a new crop of pilots to shape into his own hits, while at the same time Chuck was dipping in the rating — the show averaged 5.6 million viewers and a 2.0 rating among adults 18-49 this season.

In the May 16 season finale of NBC’s spy drama Chuck, the altar-bound Chuck and Sarah (Zachary Levi and Yvonne Strahovski) run into a hitch, courtesy of an evil uninvited guest. “After Sarah is poisoned by Vivian Volkoff, Chuck has one final moment with his fiancée,” teases executive producer Chris Fedak, chilling us with his use of final, as the show has yet to be renewed for next season. Could this be what they mean by “Till death do us part”?

Question: Deets on the Chuck finale, please! —Megan Ausiello: Images of Yvonne Strahovski in a wedding dress have leaked. The show recently shot scenes on location at a Los Angeles-area church. The entire season has been building towards a Chuck-Sarah wedding. Yet in spite of all of this, exec producer Chris Fedak says fans shouldn’t assume those two crazy kids will end up getting hitched in Monday’s finale. “Just because we may’ve shot something at a church doesn’t mean [there's a wedding],” he teases. “Once you see how our season finale works there should be a degree of doubt. It’s structured in such a way that we don’t know if Chuck and Sarah are going to get together in the end.”

Question: Worst-case scenario — Chuck doesn’t get renewed. Will producers excise the finale’s top-secret cliffhangery epilogue that’s supposed to set up Season 5? —Ryan Ausiello: Good question. Let’s ask Fedak. “From a technical perspective, we probably won’t know the fate of the show until after we lock the cut of the finale,” he says. “However, I really like this ending that we’ve built and I think it works no matter what situation we’re going into. I really love this episode. I don’t think I would change it.”

Okey, so this episode was just OUTSTANDING! I was just incredulous for the whole final part of the episode, and I´m sure my reaction and expression was mirrored everywhere. What a shock to see Sarah drop from her feet like that. That was just unreal. But anyway, next week it´s the loong awaited, antecipated and of course a bit, dreaded season finale. Much because of the fact that we are soo ancious to learn the fate of Vivian and Alexei (I´m not going to include Sarah here, because we know, after the first shock, that she will be fine) and dreaded because we are far from promised a fifth season.

In completely other news my blog is two years this month and to celebrate I would like us to get a delicious fifth season! This bring me to my other point of this post:

Question: Since you are almost as big a fan of Chuck as I am, I need to know: What is your degree of confidence that the season finale can also serve as a satisfying series finale if NBC does the unthinkable and unforgivable? —Jeff
Ausiello: To be honest, my confidence level was pretty low. But then I spoke to exec producer Chris Fedak and it shot through the freakin’ roof. Despite the finale being titled “Chuck vs. the Cliffhanger,” Fedak assured me that the episode features “some fantastic resolution to a number of the stories that we set up this season.” But as has become something of a Chuck tradition, the final scene features a “cliffhanger component that launches us very much into [a possible] Season 5,” Fedak adds. What would such a season look like? “There were a number of stories that we’ve always wanted to do – even from Season 1 – involving who Chuck is as a person and as a hero. So [Season 5] would be an extension of that.”

Question: In last week’s AA you mentioned that the Chuck season finale broke the bank, budget-wise. Care to elaborate? Do you know what was so expensive? —Jeremy
Ausiello: The mother of all action sequences, according to Fedak. “It’s set in the desert and includes a super motorcycle, lots of special effects and a truck getting blown off the road,” he says. “It has an element of Duel, which is Steven Spielberg’s first movie. There’s also an element of Road Warrior… and an ode to the television show Street Hawk, which I watched as a kid.”

On the night before Chuck and Sarah’s rehearsal dinner, something terrible will happen to someone we love (an incredibly important member of Operation Bartowski), and it will force the team to confront their greatest enemy: the CIA. “Chuck’s team will find themselves facing a CIA agent who’s tougher than Bentley, Beckman, and Shaw combined,” executive producer Chris Fedak teases.

As in, Chuck and Sarah’s last night of freedom with bachelor and bachelorette parties! “There’s some good action in the bachelorette party,” Yvonne Strahovski tells us. As for the bachelor party, the boys will be taking Las Vecas by storm! No typo there. Las Vecas is a campground, so prepare for some rustic male bonding.

We certainly hope so! The good news is that Yvonne told us she had a say in her wedding dress, so at least we know there’s a dress happening. “Do I or do I not end up wearing the wedding dress? That is the question,” she says coyly. “I did have a say in [my wedding dress], but we don’t know if the wedding will happen or not.” Zachary Levi adds: “Something may stop the wedding from happening; we don’t know. Lives are in danger, hijinks aplenty.” Damn those hijinks!

Sepanie523: How do you feel about Chuck’s renewal chances? And what’s all this about Chuck and Sarah maybe not making it to the wedding?
Like every season, Chuck’s fate remains up in the air while they shot the finale. “Every year we’re always wondering if we’re coming back or not and this season is no different,” Zach says to us. “The writers have been very good always about writing a final episode that has closure but also has kind of an open feel to it. And we do that again this year.” If, horrors upon horrors, this is Chuck’s last season, fans will get things wrapped up. Personally, we feel pretty good about Chuck’s renewal chances, so it’s good to know that the finale opens up more spy-nerdiness for next season.

Mini-review and concerns:

There are many things I liked about this weeks episode: Morgan and Casey mirroring each other at breakfast, Sarah´s worry about Chuck being cool with the prenup, UNO, Volkoff having therapy to get in touch with his softer side and the chess table (I have to admit that that is a fantastic chess table), among many other great moments. I have to admit that this was the best episode in a long time, and I say that in the nicest way possible, therefore its all the more frustrating to see the ratings drop even further down. An all-time low rating EVER on Chuck of 1.3 is very worrying, but we can but hope that it´ll pick back up at least a bit next week.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Chelsie Hightower rushed over from Dancing With the Stars rehearsals, a vacationing Kaley Cuoco drove up from Palm Springs, and the Supernatural trifecta of Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins flew down from their show’s set in Vancouver. But it was Yvonne Strahovski who took the prize for longest distance traveled to participate in TV Guide Magazine’s 2011 Fan Favorites Awards photo shoot.

Chuck’s leading lady hopped a flight from her native Australia, where she’d attended a close childhood friend’s wedding, and landed in Los Angeles a scant few hours before showing up at Smashbox Studios. “I’m in a total daze,” admitted the jet-lagged Strahovski, who won both Favorite Actress and Couple Who Have, an honor she shares with on-screen fiancé Zachary Levi. “But I wanted to be here. That our fans did this — it’s a bit special. It really is.”

That sentiment was echoed often throughout the shoot in mid-March, even if the winners — which were determined by more than 2.5 million online votes — couldn’t yet express their gratitude publicly. (The results were a closely guarded secret until the publication of this issue.) “If there was a way I could hug every single fan,” said Mark Ballas of Dancing With the Stars, which waltzed away with Favorite Reality Show, “I would.”

With plenty of reason to celebrate, the stars did exactly that, enacting a raucous party scene for photographer Adam Olszewski.

Levi grabbed a microphone to lip-synch along to Britney Spears’ “Hold It Against Me” — just one of the many tunes spun by an on-set DJ — while Favorite Villain costar (and onetime James Bond) Timothy Dalton gamely pelted him with maraschino cherries and even drank champagne out of a Giuseppe Zanotti stiletto. And not even a pesky flu that had swept the set of Favorite Drama Castle could keep Stana Katic from busting a move on the runway — or curling up in Nathan Fillion’s lap for photos that exude the crackling chemistry that won them Couple Who Should.

The mood was just as playful away from the camera. When Chmerkovskiy wasn’t giving good bud Ballas a hard time for walking around shirtless, he was challenging him to a game of Ping-Pong. “I’m better at everything,” Chmerkovskiy taunted, to which Ballas quipped, “Who has two mirrorball trophies?”

Both Padalecki and The Big Bang Theory’s Johnny Galecki — who went barefoot most of the day — were amused to find that, besides a catered lunch of bacon-wrapped maple pork and wild mushroom polenta, a variety of drinks were being served. (Padalecki went for a mojito, while Galecki opted for a beer.)

Meanwhile, Galecki’s costars brainstormed where they should put their Favorite Comedy trophies. Jim Parsons decided his would be displayed on the same living-room bookshelf as his Emmy and Golden Globe, while Cuoco planned to find a spot in her dressing room. “That way I can remind myself every day that we’re a favorite,” she said, before giving Galecki a goodbye peck on the cheek. “That’s a good confidence booster right there.”

Dalton had high hopes for what his award might mean as well. “Maybe,” he said with a laugh, “I’ll get a parking space now!”

Ausiello: Yeah, well, you may hate this next scoop more: In this season’s penultimate episode on May 9, “Something terrible happens to someone we love,” reveals EP Chris Fedak. In potentially related news, the show is casting the role of Clyde Decker, a “determined and remorseless CIA agent who will go to any lengths and spare no expense — or life — in order to keep the CIA’s secrets buried.” His nickname? The Eraser. Um, yikes much?!

What’s Morgan going to be up to on Chuck? — Laurie
Well, if you watched last night’s episode (and you really should have), you saw that Morgan stepped up to protect John Casey’s secret second assignment with the GRETAs (who are no more)! According to co-creator Chris Fedak, that somewhat speaks to the relationship the writers are building between the two. “We have some really funny stuff coming up in regard to the odd couple that is Morgan Grimes and Col. John Casey. It’s a peculiar decision to decide to room with your girlfriend’s dad. But they’re also very good friends and Morgan needed a place to crash,” he dishes. “Going forward, we really like the idea of Morgan as Chuck season 1, the guy who’s experiencing the spy world anew, fresh. We have some really interesting ideas about where we’re going with him in this season and how it all folds back to John Casey and his girlfriend Alex.” And if things get out of hand, it’s good to know that Sarah always has her tranq gun.

So Chuck brought the Old Spice guy [Isaiah Mustafa] and Stacy Keibler back to the show last night, any chance we’re going to get to see Summer Glau come back? – Rick
It could be a while. Not that Fedak doesn’t want to see her return, but it’s a creative pickle. “I would love to bring Summer Glau back,” Fedak says. “She, of course, left on bad terms at the end of her episode. She had kind of run afoul of Col. John Casey, but, listen, if we have the opportunity, I would love to bring summer Glau back. She’s just wonderful.”
